The House of Representatives has approved the request by President Goodluck Jonathan for an extension of the State of Emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States in Nigeria.

The approval by the house means that section 305 (6) (c ) of the 1999 constitution has been fulfilled as the senate had also approved the extension of another six months of emergency rule in the affected states.

The earlier State of Emergency proclaimed on the states by the Nigerian president expired on November 12.

The motion on the matter was adopted without a debate after a two hour closed door meeting on Wednesday with security chiefs who were invited to brief the house on the current security situation in the affected states.

The security team was led by the Chief of Defence staff, Admiral Ola Ibrahim. The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar was also in the team.
