The Nigerian government has reaffirmed its confidence in the ability of the Nigerian Armed Forces to quell the activities of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, saying the Federal Government is determined to win the war against insurgency.  

Addressing a news conference in Abuja ahead of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, the Supervising Minister of Defence, Mr. Labaran Maku, also reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to stopping all acts of insurgency being perpetrated by members of Boko Haram.

Mr Maku stressed that the Federal Government had no plans to seek foreign military assistance in its fight against insurgents operating in the north eastern part of the country.

Nigeria’s Armed Forces Remembrance  Day is celebrated on January 15 every year in commemoration of the end of the Nigerian Civil War and in honour of fallen heroes who lost their lives in the civil war, during the first and second world wars,  peace support operations and veterans who are alive.
