The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon has called on all countries’ governments to uphold the ideals of human rights that have been rekindled by the departure of Nelson Mandela.

In his tribute to the departed icon, Mr Ban stressed that Mandela showed the world the way with a heart larger than the Johannesburg stadium, the venue of Mandela’s memorial service.

“UN stood side by side with Nelson Mandela and South Africans in the fight against apartheid. We used everything we had; sanctions and diplomatic isolation.  We spoke up loud and clear.

“Our struggles still continues against inequality and intolerance and for prosperity and peace.

“Let us be inspired by his spirit. His death has awakened in all of us, the flame of human rights and the beacon of hope.

“It is our duty to keep his memory alive in our hearts and to imbibe his examples in our live,” He said.
