Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has called for the liberalization of the MDG’s grant processes for local governments for Nigeria to attain the 2015 target for the Millennium Development Goals Projects.
Mr. Al-makura made the call when the House of Representatives Committee on the Millennium Development Goals paid him a courtesy call while on oversight visit to the state as part of their inspection of projects across the country.
The Governor, while explaining the issues to the committee said that the State Government may not continue to fund its own 50% counterpart funding due to the depleting federal allocation to the state and local governments.
Despite acknowledging the challenges, the Chairman of the House Committee on MDGs, Al-Hassan Dogowa, believes that Nigeria will beat the 2015 deadline for the projects.
