The Nigerian government has reiterated its commitment to youth empowerment and tackling of challenges facing them in order to safeguard the nation’s future, progress and prosperity.

At the 2013 Future Award ceremony held in Abuja on Sunday, the Nigerian Vice President, Namadi Sambo, said that the government would continue to show more commitment to youth oriented activities that would help develop entrepreneur initiatives in young people.

“Where young people under the age of 35 make up 70 per cent of the entire population, government must address the challenges facing youths.

“Our overriding commitment therefore is to build a nation and a future that our young people deserve and can proudly inherit. We are connecting with you through unprecedented direct town hall meetings on various social media and conventional media channels.

He, however, cautioned youths that the reach afforded by the internet environment required discipline, circumspection, decorum and the judicious dispensation of time.

“That which is designed to enhance should not be permitted to impair. Whether your preferred device is laptop tablet or smartphone, let us all apply those keypads wisely and productively,” he stressed.

The award night that took place at the presidential Villa was an evening where young Nigerians were recognised for their outstanding achievements in their different areas of endeavours.

Over one hundred awardees got a handshake from the Vice President.

Accomplished Nigerian business executives and economic drivers were at the event to encourage the young entrepreneurs.
