Atiku To Make APC Decision By Year End

The All Progressives Congress (APC) will have to wait until year ending to know whether or not former vice president, Abubakar Atiku will join forces with the rapidly growing opposition party.

Following a meeting between the leadership of the party at his Abuja residence, the former vice president said he is a strong supporter of a two party system and a strong opposition for the ruling party and will discuss with his political associates and give the APC an answer shortly.

The former vice president said “I am a strong believer of the two party system for this country” adding that “in the past, we have tried together with many of them to put together an alternative strong party so that we can Nigerians choice”

“Today, there is that second party, that is the All Progressives Congress (APC), therefore they will want me to be part of it” he said,

He welcomed the “creation of the APC because it is healthy of our democracy and it is going to improve competition and also governance” noting that “once you have one very strong party and weak ones, then there is no way the opposition can check the government in power.

He further noted that “I will consult with my political associates all over the country and then make an announcement later”.

The APC has been wooing members of other political parties including former heads of states and their deputies to join the opposition and give them a firmer footing ahead of the 2015 elections.

37 Lawmakers Defect

37 members of the House of Representatives who were formerly under the umbrella of the Peoples’ Democratic Party had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier today.
