Eric Kwame of Plateau United has earned an instant call from Super Eagles Head Coach Stephen Keshi, after putting up an impressive display in the practice match played against the home-based Eagles as part of preparations for the 2014 African Nations Championship.
Though the Jos based team lost 2-0 to the CHAN Eagles, Coach Keshi says he was impressed by the display of his boys as well as the Premier League side, was particularly thrilled with Kwame’s display that made him receive an instant call up.
Five players were also called up as the coaching crew looks forward to the making of a final squad for the Championship in South Africa next month. Sadly, five others lost their place in the team.
Another lucky five got invitation to join the team. They are, Warri Wolves’ Joshua Obaji, Emmanuel Nwankwo of Bukola Babes, Sunshine Stars’ of Akure’s Paul Ikenna, Kano Pillars Shehu Abdulahi and returnee Heartland of Owerri Winger, Obinna Nwachukwu.
Those dropped from the squad are goalkeeper, Isa Danladi, who picked up an injury that will take over ten days to heal, Chibuzor Madu, who is also injured and has not trained with the team in the last three days, Lobi’s Douglas Achiv, Warri Wolves Emenike Achibi, who was invited only last week and Akwa United’s Ezekiel Mba.
Assistant coach Dan “The Bull” Amokachi, who spoke on behalf of the “Big Boss” to the players explained that they were dropped not because they were not good enough but due to time constraint, assuring them that sooner than later they will again be invited to the national team under the present scheme of things. “We urge you to return to your club sides and continue to give your best and we will keep monitoring your progress for the future”, he concluded.
