The Delta State governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan has sworn-in 25 permanent secretaries in the state civil service.

Performing the ceremony at the Unity Hall in Asaba, Dr Uduaghan said that the civil service is the key to the growth and development of the society, insisting that no society that has diversified its economy has achieved growth and development without a strong and dedicated public service.

The swearing event was well attended with friends and loved ones of the appointees and government officials from the federal and state levels.

While stating that the new permanent secretaries are appointed on merit, Governor Uduaghan commended them for their contribution to the growth of the state. He appealed to them to be dedicated, committed, transparent and God-fearing in the discharge of their duties.

He further noted that their appointments as permanent secretaries in the state is  not a retiring gift, but a career progression and political appointment meant for civil servants who had excelled in their performance in the course of their service.

One of the appointees, Mr. Nduka Okonkwo, who responded on behalf of his colleagues, expressed appreciation to the governor for the appointment and pledged their loyalty and commitment to duty.

The governor also called on commissioners to maintain a cordial working relationship with their Permanent Secretaries through the exchange of knowledge and ideas so as to avoid friction and conflicts.

It could also be recalled that just a few months ago, a large number of permanent secretaries retired in the state.
