The Edo state government is collaborating with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to ensure that kerosine is sold to residents  at the controlled price of N50 per litre.

This was made known by the Chairman of Edo State Task Force on Petroleum and Gas Monitoring, Chris Okaegben, during a visit to points of sale to enforce the sale at the government approved price.

He blamed the shortage of the commodity on those hoarding the product and sell them at exorbitant prices later.

The collaboration, according to Okaegben, is to ensure an increase in the supply of kerosene to the state. He further promised that the product will reach the end users.

A mild drama ensued when kerosene dealers brought jerry cans to make whole sale purchase, Okaegben embarked on the destruction of jerry cans and urged the end users to come forward and purchase the product at the price approved by the government.

Some of the beneficiaries thanked the State Government and the NNPC for the initiative, some of whom said they have never had the opportunity to buy kerosene owing to long queues of jerry cans.

It is however hoped that that the policy will be sustained in the long run.
