A group of concerned PDP stakeholders has lambasted the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State for allegedly, misinforming the public that there was mass defection of PDP members to APC.

They insisted that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, remained the strongest, most popular and stable political entity in Kaduna and the country as a whole.

Addressing a press conference in Kaduna on Thursday, a former North-West Zonal Secretary of PDP and leader of the group, Mr Baba Aliyu said that it was sad that the APC exaggerated the number of those who defected from the party. He claimed that as much as some of their members were going to other political parties, members of other political parties were also coming to the PDP.

He announced that very soon, the PDP in the state would be receiving a large number of defectors from APC and other political parties, adding that all PDP members in Kaduna State were loyal to Vice-President Namadi Sambo, who is the leader of the party in the zone.

Earlier, a former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), and member of the PDP Stakeholders’ Forum, Hussaini Jallo, regretted that some “myopic political lame ducks” are using the media to drag the name of Vice-President Sambo, the leadership of Governor Muktar Yero and the party into the muddy waters of blackmail and hatred.

The group frowned at the attitude of some of the PDP members whose loyalty to the party and government was only to achieve their selfish ambitions at the detriment of the party, adding that the PDP had done much in Kaduna State, under Governor Yero, especially in restoring peace and unity among members.

As part of measures to halt further defection of its members to the APC, the leadership of PDP in the state said it is making arrangement to receive hundreds of members of APC who have indicated willingness to join the party.

Over 1,200 PDP members had on Tuesday, December 24, defected to the APC on a day Vice-President Sambo was holding a house mending meeting with party leaders.
