The Anambra state local government elections has ended and at the moment people are gathered at the headquarters of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) in Awka the state capital, waiting for the collation of the final result to be announced as some of the returning officers from the 21 local government areas of the state are yet to arrive.

Meanwhile, in spite of the assurances from the commissioner in-charge of Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) Sylvester Okonkwo, that the local government election will commence simultaneously in all the local government areas of the state by eight o’clock in the morning, several hours after the scheduled time, there was yet to be sign of the commencement of the process in several local government areas.

Complaints over late distribution of materials from local government headquarters to the various wards and absence of result sheets were major issues. The election had to be extended to about 5PM due to late arrival of materials and late accreditation of voters.
