A former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, has moved from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At a meeting with some of his supporters and associates on Saturday, Mr Bafarawa said that his decision to leave the party was because he could no longer feel a sense of belonging in the party.

“I believe my associates and I will not get justice and a sense of belonging in the APC any longer,” he said.

Mr Bafarawa was governor of Sokoto State under the platform of the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party in 1999 and 2003.

He was a presidential aspirant under the Democratic People’s Party.

There have been several defections lately in Nigeria. Major ones were in the National Assembly, where 36 PDP lawmakers moved to the APC after five PDP governors moved from the PDP to the APC.

One of the governors that defected to the APC is that of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamako.

With Mr Bafarawa’s defection, Wamako is seen as his political opponent.

The political effect this will have on the state is yet to be known, as Bafarawa is said to have a remarkable followership in the state.
