The government official said that the local government cannot handle such projects, which he said were capital intensive, alone. Mr Jimoh pointed out that some road projects were more than what the local council could handled with their allocation.
Speaking on Friday, on Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Mr. Jimoh emphasised the need for the state government to also support grassroot projects.
He said that the council had put strategies in place to ensure that every wards in the local council benefited from government activities.
He explained that the council had liaison officers “who meet to discuss problems encountered in the area and get back to the chairman before it is taken to the state government.”
Listing part of his accomplishments as the chairman of the council, he stated that he had set up a fire fighting personnel to help control and reduce damages caused by fire outbreak.
He said instead of waiting for fire fighters, the objective of the personnel is to be on standby in case of any emergency, adding that the men are equipped.
Comparing Nigeria with other countries, Mr. Jimoh emphasised that it was the work of the local government to stop fire outbreaks and not the state or Federal Government. He therefore called on the state government for adequate revenue allocation and co-operation.
Responding to an issue about persons who collect money as revenue for the local councils in Lagos State from traders and hide under the auspices of being a member of the local government council without an identification card, he referred to them as “touts” and insisted that such persons should be arrested.
“Anybody you find collecting rates without ID card from the local government, that person should be regarded as a tout,” he said.
