President Jonathan Visits Emir Of Kano, Prominent Oyo, Osun Monarchs

President Goodluck Jonathan has visited Kano State to pay homage to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

The visit may not have the same pomp and pageantry associated with such presidential trips, as there were very few government officials led by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdulahi Umar Gandoje at the Kano International Airport to receive the President.

In an interview with Channels Television, the Deputy Governor said that the Emir had been very sick for some time and it therefore became expedient for President Goodluck Jonathan to come for the private visit to pay homage to the Emir.

The Deputy Governor also said that the visit was not a political one but that it was just to see the Emir who had been sick since the Sallah holiday.

President Goodluck Jonathan, while speaking at the palace of the Emir, also said that he was in Kano on a private visit to pay homage and see how the Emir was doing, following his health condition.

The President, who arrived at the Emirs palace at about 12:15 pm, was grateful to the Emir for the encouragement he had been receiving, promising to continue to work for the unity of the country.

President Jonathan also said that he was working round the clock to ensure the security of lives and property in the country, in the midst of daunting security challenges.

The Emir prayed for him and commended the development efforts of the administration and the efforts to ensure that the country remained indivisible.

The President’s jet left Kano for Lagos at about 1 .15pm.

It will be recalled that the President was also in Kano in the heat of the Boko Haram insurgency in 2012 to commiserate with the Emir following an attack that claimed several lives, as well as injuring many others. The President had at that time assured the Emir that security would be beefed up to secure lives and property in Kano state and the entire country.

Jonathan Visits Oyo And Osun States

Straight from the Emir of Kano’s palace, the President jetted off to Lagos enroute Ife in Osun State, and Oyo State where he paid a private visit to prominent monarchs.

On arrival at the Ibadan Airport, in the Oyo State capital, President Jonathan was received by the State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, and members of the Governor’s cabinet.

Also at the airport to receive the President were top PDP members in the state.

At the palace of the Alafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the monarch and the Oba in council received the President both of whom later had a short private meeting in the palace.
