Jim Nwaobodo - Gana - ClarkThe Nigerian government has released the list of the 492 delegates that will be attending the National Conference.

Top on the delegates’ list released on Thursday are the names of 37 elder statesmen, which include Dr Tunji Braithwaite, Mr Richard Ajkinjide, General Ike Nwahcukwu, Mr Edwin Clark, Senator Jim Nwobodo, Professor Jerry Gana, the PDP Chairman, Mr Adamu Muazu amongst others

Other groups that will be represented at the National Conference include retired military and security personnel, traditional rulers and retired civil servants.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, representatives of women in business, market women, youth groups, civil societies and religious groups also have their delegates in the list.

Only parties that have members in the National Assembly were given the opportunity to send delegates.

An opposition party, the All Progressive Congress, is yet to forward the names of its delegates to the government.

The opposition party had kicked against the National Conference, insisting that there was no need for such conference. They had demanded that the agenda for the conference be properly stated, saying that what Nigerians need is good governance and not a National Conference.

However, all APC governors have forwarded lists of delegates representing the states to the government.

The conference modalities released by the government had set aside discussions on the disintegration of the country, labelling it a “No Go Area”.

The Presidential Advisory Committee on National Conference had said that only one memo was received with the call for the disintegration of the country.

The conference will hold for a period of three months.
