Air NigeriaThe Civil Aviation Act of 2006 created an autonomy for the sector in Nigeria and the domestication of the Cape Town Convention provided room for the acquisition of modern Aircraft.

The Act has yielded several results for Nigeria’s aviation sector, including a Category 1 Certification for the Nigerian Aviation sector in 2010 by the American Federal Aviation Administration.

Director of Fight Operations of Arik Air, Captain Ado Sanusi believes that the chances of Nigeria retaining the Category 1 Certification is fair.

“The certification confirms the standard of aviation in Nigeria. It shows that the standard is rising and that Nigeria is a safety conscious aviation country. It shows the capacity of the regulating country and the Ministry of Aviation itself,”he said.

The certification will be reviewed in few weeks’ time and the chances of retaining the rating is discussed in this video.

Aviation This Week also looked at some of the safety initiatives taken by the aviation sector to ensure safety and comfort of passengers.
