NIS Stampede: Activists Call On Minister of Interior To “Sack Himself”

A group of activists have called for the resignation of the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro over the death of more than a dozen applicants at the recruitment exercise conducted by the Nigeria Immigration Service.

At a forum, the activists aired their views on a number of issues including the stampede during the recruitment exercise by the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The organisers of the forum said the discussion was a step in the right direction for change in the country.
The Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu said “the stampede is an inexcusable scandal” and further insisted that the Minister of Interior should “sack himself”.

The Director, Centre for Democracy and Development, Jibril Ibrahim stated that the proposition given by the Federal Executive for jobs to be given to families of those who died during the stampede should be rejected and advised that Nigerians who are participating at the National Conference should use it as an opportunity to discuss on how the country can move forward.
