Abike-DabiriA member of the House of Representatives in Nigeria has bemoaned the unfortunate killing of a 300 level Nigerian student at the university of Cape Coast in Ghana.

The killing of the student, Godwin Ayogu, drew attention to the maltreatment of Nigerians abroad.

But the late Ayogu is not the latest in such incident; four other Nigerian students have also been killed in varying circumstances in different institutions in Ghana.

The Chairman, House Committee on Nigerians in the Diaspora, Abike Dabiri, stressed the need for the government to employ every diplomatic avenue to bring the perpetrators to book and prevent such from becoming the recurring fate of Nigerian youths who study abroad.

“The embassy has done its best in the situation.

“Four children have died. Ghanaian authorities have done their best ensuring justice is done. But for the last case we learnt that the Ghanaian Police released whoever it was that they claimed could have committed the offence.

“I expect the president to get up and call the president of Ghana and ask him what is going on.

“I know we have our issues, which are the cases of our students going to Ghana to study. Eighty per cent of those in private schools in Ghana are Nigerians.

“We spend so much sending these children to Ghana and it is enormous and we should deal with the issues of these students being killed,” she said.
