Russia-Eastern-region-crisisA defence expert with the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna, Professor Isaac Mbachu, has ruled out the chances of Russia being involved in the crisis in the eastern part of Ukraine, insisting that it is a fall out of the annexing of Crimea.

“What happened in Crimea has made people in other region bolder,”  he said.

In a new twist to the crisis in Ukraine, major cities and towns in the eastern region have been threatened by a takeover of over-zealous pro-Russian forces, who have walked into main government buildings, and are indirectly holding the Ukrainian government hostage.

Russian troops have been massing on the eastern border for a couple of weeks now.

Nato had been the first to sound the warning that their presence was proof Russia intended to take over Ukraine.

But the Russian government has denied any such intention, saying they are only there to protect Russian interests.

The United States government does not believe ethnic-speaking Russians are under threat in Ukraine. Obama’s administration says the Russian propaganda machine continues to promote hate speech and incite violence, by creating a false threat in Ukraine that does not exist.  In fact, in a report on it’s website, the US Department of State says there are no credible reports of ethnic Russians facing threats in Ukraine.

Professor Mbachu said that Russia had already taken Crimea and that taking another town in Ukraine would be condemned by the whole world.

He dismissed the chances of Nato attacking Russia, explaining that such attack on Russia, would result in nuclear winter.

What could be done? Professor Mbachu explained in the video.
