The Governors of the South West Geo political zone of Nigeria have been asked to formulate the necessary policies and programmes that will engender a paradigm shift and reposition the agricultural sub sector of the south west states.
This call was made by delegates at the first South West Farmers’ Summit held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta the Ogun State capital with the theme: South West Economic Growth Commodities
The summit attracted farmers from the six south west states of Ogun, Lagos, Oyo, Osun ,Ekiti and Ondo
It is part of the regional integration of the south west states towards redeeming the fortunes of the region and delegates from the six states have gathered to rub minds and channel a new course of action for agricultural development of the region, for food security and abundance
At the summit, issues of double taxation, adequate improved seedlings for farmers, clashes between farmers and Fulani herdsmen came to the fore.
Representing the Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs Ibironke Sokefun, bemoaned policy somersault in the sector but was quick to justify the efforts being put in place by the state government towards improved agricultural development
