David-CameronThe British Prime Minister, David Cameron, has described the abduction of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls as an “act of pure evil”, promising to offer further assistance in the rescue efforts.

Addressing the Parliament on Wednesday, the Prime Minister said that the British government would do all in its power to end Islamic extremism.

Britain is already helping to educate 600,000 Nigerian girls and are willing to offer further assistance.

Cameron is expected to speak with the Nigerian President, to discuss the Chibok girls’ issue and how Britain can assist Nigeria in the rescue of the girls.

“My reaction is exactly the same as that of every father and mother in this land and in the world. This is an act of pure evil.

“It has united people across the planet to stand with Nigeria to help find these children and return them to their parents,” he said.

Since the school girls were abducted, the Foreign Secretary in the British government have made repeated offers of help for the Nigerian government.
“Britain stands to provide any assistance as we can, working very closely with the US. We already have a British military training team in Nigeria the foreign office has counter terrorism experts and we should be proud of the role we play in that country, where British aid is helping to educate 800, 000 Nigerian children including 600,000 girls,” Mr Cameron said.

He pointed out that the issues were not just a Nigeria issue, saying “it is a global issue”.

“There are extreme Islamists around our world who are against education, against progress, against equality and we will fight them and take them wherever they are,” he insisted.

France and the US had also said they would be sending troops to assist in the effort Nigeria was making to end insurgency in the north east.

The abduction of over 200 girls had triggered protests in Lagos, Abuja, Borno, Kwara, Rivers States and in some countries, pushing world leaders to take drastic action that would end the insurgency.
