Fulani-Gwari-clash-in-AbujaBarely a month after the Fulani and southern Kaduna natives signed a peace accord and pledged to sheathe their swords and live together, gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Tuesday attacked a Police station in Fadan Karshi village, in Sanga Local Government also located in the southern part of the state, killing two policemen and four others.

An eyewitness told Channels Television that the gunmen attacked the Police station located in heart of the community at about 8.00pm on Tuesday night when most people were moving around.

The state commissioner of Police, who visited the scene, described the attack as unfortunate. He confirmed that the gunmen killed two of his men, one inspector and a corporal, and also killed four others, explaining that two of the attackers were later apprehended and lynched to death by the angry villagers.

Similarly, the state Governor, Mukhtar Yero, condemned the attack, describing the act as a provocative attempt by hoodlums to throw the State into confusion.

In a statement by his Director, Media and Publicity, Ahmed Maiyaki, the Governor condoled with families of victims of the unwarranted attack on policemen and innocent citizens in the area and called on people of Fadan Karshi and other parts of the State to remain calm as security forces had been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

The Governor said security agencies had already commenced investigation into the matter and were on the tracks of the criminals. “No stone shall be left unturned in our resolve to bring perpetrators of this attack and all other criminal assault on our people in the past to justice,” he said.

In the meantime, more armed soldiers and police had been drafted to the area to prevent further attacks.
