Channels Kids CupThe Channels Kids Cup started on Tuesday with the Onikan Stadium and Campos Square venues producing 20 goals each, as teams outplayed each other for a place in the second round of the preliminaries.

At the end of day one, four teams progressed to the second round of qualifiers at each of the venues.

St. Paul’s Primary School, Lagos Island and Ago-Egba African Church Primary School kicked off proceedings at the at the Onikan Stadium.

As centre referee, Sanni Quadri, signaled the start of the first half, both sides showed their strong intent, as no goals could separate the sides at regulation time and the game headed for penalties, with Ago-Egba edging out St. Paul 4-1.

It was harvest of goals in the day’s second game; Goodness and Mercy Primary School showed no mercy for the boys from Toydam Primary School as they defeated them by 6 goals to 1.

Competition regulars, Toyibat Primary School thrashed debutants Prime Montessorri School 3-1.

Newcomers, Catony Royal sent another debutant, Command Children’s School parking with a 3-1 score line.

The Campos Square venue also produced 20 goals with Ebute Metta Primary School defeating Highscope Primary School 4-2; Dr. Teslim Elias thrashed Future Kids School 7-0; Eunifrance Primary School sent Effortswill Primary School parking with a convincing 5-0 score line and Mercellina International earned a place in the next stage of the competition by beating Perfecter International School 2-0.
