Gov KwaraThe Kwara State Government has earmarked 220million Naira for the establishment of three new grazing reserves across the state as part of efforts to check incessant clashes between cattle rearers and ‎farmers.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Anthony Towoju, while briefing journalists in Ilorin after the State’s Executive Council meeting, explained that the new grazing reserves would be established in the three senatorial districts of the state.

The three grazing reserves estimated to cost 220million Naira would be located at Alapa for Kwara Central senatorial district, Lata in Kwara North and Babanla for the Kwara South senatorial district.

According to the Commissioner, the existing grazing reserve in Gidanmagajiya would be rehabilitated to accommodate more than its present capacity of 100 cattle rearers, while the proposed grazing reserves would have earth dams and boreholes for enhanced pastures.

The commissioner also disclosed that the council-in-session approved the retracing and demarcation of traditional routes that have been encroached upon while sign posts and monuments would be erected along the routes to create awareness among farmers and herdsmen.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Tunji Moronfoye, on his part revealed that the council has also approved the establishment of a committee headed by the Deputy Governor to enhance quality in primary education and welfare of primary school teachers.

Moronfoye said graduating students of early childhood education from the state university would be given automatic employment as part of strategies of promoting qualitative primary education, in the state.

The council also established a committee on housing to fashion out mortgage systems for civil servants and individuals repayable between 5 to 15 years in anticipation that Ilorin, the state capital would in the next 10 years become a mega city.
