Muhammadu-Buhari2Leaders of opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria have urged all Nigerians to work together in the fight against insurgency, insisting that the government is incompetent.

At a political event held in Ekiti State on Wednesday ahead of the State governorship election, a former anti-graft head, Mr Nuhu Ribadu, emphasised the need for Nigerians to come together in finding a lasting solution to the ‘senseless killings’.

He advised that the military should be backed in every way to make them succeed.

“We all have to come together, put politics aside, put any division aside and understand that we have evil in front of us. We have a tragedy, we have extremists, mad people attacking us indiscriminately, killing our people left right and centre. They do not know who is a child, a woman or a man. They do not know who is a Christian or a Muslim. They do not know who is a southerner or a northerner. Theirs is to kill, to maim and to destroy,” Mr Ribadu said.

‘Incompetence Of The Government’

A former Military Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, and a former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, however, believe there was the need for a change of strategy in order to bring an end to the terrorist’s incessant attacks.

“I wonder how the parents of those 200 children go to bed and I wonder how they wake up because they are not sure of what is happening to their children.

“For the government to allow a thing of such proportion to continue to happen, it has said volumes of the incompetence of the government,” General Buhari said.

Tinubu insisted that the state of emergency declared in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States and the military strategy used at the moment were ineffective.

“That is why we are still having incidents of bombing and we cannot locate the girls still. The state of emergency declared is not as effective as it should be. Every option must be considered,” he said, emphasising the need for further actions.

He stressed that the APC was ready to work with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorist group carrying out series of attacks in some Nigerian northern states.

Few days ago, a spokesman for the APC, Lai Mohammed, accused the government of not seeking the support of other political parties in the fight against the insurgents.

The Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, on several occasions, have called for the support of all Nigerians in the fight against the Boko Haram sect.

The military has been tackling the insurgency, but in recent months, the attacks on villages are spreading to other states in the north.

On Tuesday over 70 persons were killed in an attack in Jos central area of Plateau State, few days after an explosion in Kano.
