The Presidential Facts Finding Committee on the abducted female students of Government Secondary School Chibok in Borno state on Friday held an interactive session with members of the Borno Elders’ Forum in line with its terms of reference.
At the opening session of the meeting, the Chairman of the committee, Brigadier-General Ibrahim Sabo urged members of the Borno Elders’ Forum to partner with the presidential committee in an effort to achieve its set of objectives.
He described the people of Borno as key to the achievement of the committee’s terms of reference and hoped the desired support would be sustained.
After a closed door session that lasted for over two hours, Spokesman of the committee, Kingsley Osadalor, told journalists in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, that the meeting exchanged objectives and frank ideas that would assist the committee towards the realization of its set of objectives.
He also said that the issues discussed would galvanize the communities towards fighting a common course that would return the state and its surrounding communities to a permanent peace.
The Secretary of Borno Elders Forum, Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio, who spoke on behalf of the forum, was, however, of the view that the Federal Government should have dialogued with Boko Haram when they demanded for the exchange of their detained members with the girls, instead of vehemently rejecting the offer.
He also called on the Federal Government to adequately equip and motivate security personnel working tirelessly towards ending the insurgency, stressing that no personnel would be fully committed under the lack of motivation they were passing through in the troubled north-east states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.
The Presidency had constituted the fact-finding committee to meet with the relevant stakeholders with a view to ensuring the safe release of the abducted schoolgirls from Chibok.
