Health Matters: When Is It An Emergency?
An emergency is a situation that poses an immediate risk to health, life, property, or environment. Most emergencies require urgent intervention so the situation does not get worse. Sometimes, though, mitigation may not be possible and agencies may only be able to offer palliative care for the period after the emergency.
Some emergencies can easily be identified; other incidents require an observer (or affected party) to decide whether it qualifies as an emergency.
Dr Dominic Ukpong on this edition of the programme, identifies some emergencies around the home for us today, what to do about them and how to prevent them if possible.
He is trained in advanced burns management, and is the Current National Chairman Society For Occupational & Environmental Health Physicians Of Nigeria (SOEHPON).
