Parmanent Voters CardThe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria has begun distribution of permanent voters’ cards to registered voters in Akwa Ibom State.

The exercise recorded an impressive turn out on Saturday, with Governor Godswill Akpabio and wife, Unoma  Akpabio among recipients.

Hundreds of registered voters turned out to take advantage of the exercise.

Addressing the people at one of the registration centers, Governor Akpabio said that the future of democracy in Nigeria depended on voters’ full participation in the exercise.

He urged all Nigerians of voting age to take advantage of the exercise to enable them exercise their franchise in the forthcoming elections.

The distribution of permanent voters’ cards by the INEC commenced nationwide on Friday.

The electoral commission had said that the permanent voters would be used in the 2015 General Election that is less than 10 months from now.
