The-channels-kids-cupEbute Metta Primary School, Ago-Egba, Dr. Teslim Elias and IMG, Oyo have qualified for the semi-finals of the 6th edition of the Channels National Kids Cup.

In what can be called a Lagos derby, Ago-Egba African Church Primary School and Dr. Teslim Elias got the quarter-final games started.

Ago-Egba’s Oluwaseyi Adeyemi gave his team the lead in the first half, moments later; playmaker Ibukun Adetoro, scored the equalizer via a set piece.

At the end of regulation time, score stayed at 1-1 and it was Dr. Teslim Elias that was victorious in the penalty shoot-out. It ended 3-1 as Ago-Egba’s Dare Ayansola, Salisu Muhammed and Kehinde Akande failed to convert their spot kicks.

The second quarter-final game was between Samuel Ajayi Memorial School of Ogun and Ibadan Municipal Government School. It was a thrilling game that produced 5 goals and ended the fairy tale of Team Ogun that has been playing with nine players.

Captain of Team Ogun, Matthew Okewunmi scored a brace but goals from Ayomide Adesina and Adigun Oyedele ensured IMG, Oyo booked a place in the last four.

The much talked about game between Nana Primary School, Delta and Ebute Metta, Lagos. Team Delta had a smooth ride in the group phase but in this encounter, Ebute Metta was prepared to make them work and they did.

Anieke Favour scored the first goal for the Lagos based team but just before the break Daniel Ayuma levelled up for Delta. But it was Ebute Metta’s Agbedeyi Ahmed that stunned the boys from Delta when he scored from a set piece in the second have to take his team to the semi-finals.

It was breath-taking encounter when Research Model Primary School, Kaduna and Toyibat of Lagos filed out in search of the last ticket to the next round of the competition.

Yusuf Mohammed gave Team Kaduna the lead in the first half and just when they returned from the break, Idris Salisu doubled the lead. Toyibat didn’t give up, they kept fighting until Toheeb Lasisi pulled one back.

In the final minutes of the game, Ekujimi Emmanuel kept his team in the tournament when he scored from a set piece. That life-saving goal forced the game to go into penalties. At the end of the shoot-out, Toyibat won 4-3 to advance.

In the semi-finals, Dr. Teslim Elias, Isale-Eko will trade tackles with Ebute Metta Primary School while Ibadan Municipal Government School, Oyo will take on Toyibat, Gbagada Lagos.

The semi-final games will be play at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Monday and also host the final game on Wednesday which is also celebrated as Children’s Day.
