The appointment of the chairmen has triggered controversy, with the opposition condemning it, raising fears that the end to political tension in Rivers State may not be in sight.

On a nonworking day at the council chamber of Rivers State government in Port Harcourt, government officials, led by Governor Amaechi, came together for the swearing in ceremony of the care taker committee chairmen to run the affairs of the Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
