Gov AmaechiThe Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has urged media practitioners in Nigeria to rise up against an attempt by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, NBC, to ‘introduce censorship through the back door’ by demanding a 48-hour notice from broadcasting stations before a live coverage can be broadcast.

The State’s Commissioner for Information, Mrs Ibiam Sementari, made the governors views known at the 3rd public lecture organised by the Ogun State Correspondent chapel in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

He also advised Nigerians to demand good governance and accountability from the crop of leaders steering the affairs of the country in order to bring to fruition the hopes and aspirations of the nation’s founding fathers.

The lecture with the theme, ‘Nigeria; The Leadership Question’, was described as apt in line with preparations being made for another general elections to elect the nation’s leaders.

Mrs Sementari stressed that the current challenges of socio-economic inequality and leadership should make Nigerians more focused.

She decried the recent pronouncement by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission over live coverage by broadcasting media stations, stating that the step is draconian and dictatorial in nature.
