Jos lawyersLawyers in Akure, Ondo state have staged a peaceful protest to register their grievances against the decision of the state’s Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Olasehinde Kumuyi to impose bail conditions on them.

The Lawyers argued that the freedom to liberty is “a right that cannot be removed from the Constitution of Nigeria”; adding that payment of tax is not compulsory for everybody.

The protesting Lawyers, armed with placards in various wordings, marched through major streets of Akure chanting solidarity songs against the new policy by the Chief Judge.

Led by the Chairman, Akure Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lawrence Dare, the lawyers described the policy as unconstitutional.

The procession moved to the premises of the state High Court, where they prevented all the courtrooms from attending to litigants.

They equally gave the Chief Judge an ultimatum till next Monday to rescind the decision, without which they will demand for his removal.
