Adulterated FuelThe Commandant, Nigerian Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Abia State, Andy Dateer, has warned the persons involved in the act of sabotaging government efforts through vandalism activities to desist from it, as the command would ensure that all the hoodlums are chased out of Abia State.

During the parade of suspects involved in conveying adulterated petroleum product, Mr Dateer told reporters in his office in Umuahia that the agency was committed to ending oil theft in the region.

Dateer called on the public to be security conscious and report any suspicious move to the command and advised tanker drivers  to be aware of the product that they are conveying.

“Ignorance will not be an excuse if anyone is caught in the crime,” he warned.

In recent times, it is no longer business as usual for trucks conveying petroleum products to show its way bill alone as evidence to be allowed to continue its journey.

This is because the watchful eye of the NSCDC are involved in proper searching and testing of products being conveyed into the state to ensure that saboteurs of government effort do not go scout free.

It was during such exercise that two trucks, one of them conveying 7,000 litres of adulterated  gas from Enugu to Umuahia was apprehended while the other truck coming from Port Harcourt was loaded with Good fuel but inside the truck, several gallons of cans filled with adulterated fuel were hidden.

According to the Commandant, the NSCDC, Abia State, the discovery is another type of deceptive method of sabotage and oil theft, with innocent citizens of Nigerian tricked into buying fake and adulterated product.

Meanwhile, the adulterated petroleum product has been confiscated and the suspects arrested.
