Reactions have been trailing the impeachment notice served on the Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, and his Deputy, Bala Ngilari, by the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governor’s Forum and also the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has urged stakeholders to halt the move and allow peace to reign in the State.
In a statement by the Chairman, he called on the leadership of the Adamawa State House of Assembly to drop the impeachment proceedings in the interest of the state. He noted that the state was already having security challenges and it shouldn’t be driven into another round of crisis.
Governor Okorocha advised the President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, to intervene in the matter and see that the impeachment move is brought to a halt, adding that with the present security situation bedeviling the state and country, it would be insensible for anybody to raise the issue of impeaching the Governor of a state faced with a lot of security challenges.
Governor Murtala Nyako and his Deputy, Mr Bala Ngilari, were given a notice of impeachment ‘‘ for gross misconduct’’.
The impeachment notice, signed by 19 of the 25 state lawmakers, listed 20 impeachable offences against them. There was also an accusation of extra-budgetary expenditure of over N390 million as overhead cost from January 2013 to December 2013, among other allegations.
