Ayodele-Fayose-2Some electorates in Ekiti State have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its efforts in ensuring that the Ekiti State governorship election was credible, free and fair.

Saturday’s election has been described as one of the most credible elections that have been conducted in Nigeria, with a lesson for politicians.

One of the voters that spoke with Channels Television’s correspondent, Henry Ogunjimi in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, said the people of Ekiti needed a change.

Henry reports that the tension and apprehension that preceded the governorship election disappeared few hours after the PDP governorship candidate was declared winner.

“Fayose, Fayose, Fayose,” some electorates that waited after casting their votes on Saturday shouted when they got the results from their polling booth.

In that excitement, they left in jubilation.

The incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi,  has conceded defeat and congratulated the governor-elect, Ayodele Fayose.

“The people think Fayemi has tried his best but another person needs to come in and try his own best,” a voter said.

Another voter stressed that though Governor Fayemi had contributed a lot in terms of roads and other infrastructure, the people saw the projects as developments that would not add direct value to their living standard.

Fayose was further described as the architect of modern Ekiti State and a man that had shown his love for Ekiti masses.

Addressing journalists after the election result was declared, Mr Fayose promised an all-inclusive government, extending a hand of fellowship to the incumbent governor and the Labour Party candidate, Mr Opeyemi Bamidele.
