police_officers_1Two suspects in connection with the circulation of fake Nigerian currencies have been nabbed in Gombe State, North-east Nigeria.

The Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) of the command, DSP Fwaje Atajiri, while addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Gombe, said that the circulation of fake currency in the state was uncovered after the arrest of two persons in possession of fake N1, 000 and N500 denominations in the state.

While parading the two suspects along with 28 others for various offences ranging from armed robbery to house braking and circulation of the fake currencies, the spokesman cautioned residents to be aware of the activities of the syndicates.

“After the arrest of two suspects while trying to transact a business along Sabon Layi area of Gombe metropolis last week and after the parading of four others for possessing such counterfeit notes, it has become glaring that fake currencies are in circulation in Gombe.

“Therefore, we are warning the general public to be vigilant while transacting business with N1, 000 and N500 notes as they are the two denominations in circulation in the state”, Atajiri said.

The command also paraded 27 others, whom he described as social miscreants that specialize in dispossessing innocent citizens of their money, mobile phones, among other valuables.

While calling for vigilant policing, the spokesman attributed the success to the massive raid on criminal hideouts carried out by the command.

“The Commissioner of Police has fashioned out strategies to stop social miscreants from roaming the streets of Gombe and these efforts have been yielding the desired results.

“We appreciate members of the public and sister security organizations that have been sharing their useful information with us”, the PPRO said.

He asked for more collaboration between the security agencies and the public in fighting crime, by volunteering useful information that would assist in apprehending criminals.

The suspects according to him would soon be charged to court.
