Sudanese woman, Meriam Ibrahim, re-arrested at the airportLess than 24 hours after her release, Meriam Ibrahim, the Sudanese woman sentenced to death for marrying a christian and denouncing her Muslim faith has been re-arrested by security officials at the Khartoum Airport in Sudan.

40 security agents detained Meriam along with her husband and children as they were trying to leave Sudan.

Her lawyer told MailOnline: “We don’t have any information about what charges they face. But the National Security force does not have to take them to court”

Mrs Ibrahim was released from prison after an appeal court annulled the death sentence imposed on her and was sent to a safe house for ‘protection’.

Before she was rearrested, Western countries had welcomed the decision to rescind the death penalty.

Born to a Muslim father, 27 year old Mrs Ibrahim married Mr Wani, a Christian, in 2011. Though Mrs Ibrahim was brought up as an Orthodox Christian, the authorities considered her to be a Muslim because it is the religion of her father.
