Following the latest bomb explosions in Emab Plaza in Abuja and Kasuwan Kuturu in Mubi, Adamawa State were at least 21 persons were confirmed dead and 50 others injured, Vice-President, Namadi Sambo has urged Nigerians to be vigilant and observant in reporting suspicious act as government is determined to crush insurgency in the country.
Mr Sambo noted that the attacks in these various places underscores the need for all Nigerians to be vigilant on the security challenge posed by terrorism in the country.
Sambo said this when he visited the scene of Wednesday’s (June 25) bomb blast at Emab Plaza in Abuja. He condemned the incident, saying government would definitely defeat all acts of terror.
He described the attack that resulted in the death of 21 people with others sustaining various degrees of injuries as “unfortunate and regrettable”.
The Vice-President, who was also at the Maitama General Hospital to sympathize with the victims of the blast, enjoined the people to continue their legitimate duties without fear.
According to him, “cowardly and unjust acts will be defeated, and the perpetrators of evil will not dampen the spirit of Nigerians with their dastardly acts”.
He was accompanied by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Anyim Pius Anyim, National Security Adviser to the President,Col. Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) and some Ministers.
Security Update At Hospitals
Meanwhile, security operatives have taken charge of the Maitama General Hospital where victims of the blast are receiving treatment
Though the management of the hospital has refused to comment on the situation, a large number of relatives and colleagues of those who lost their lives in the blast gathered at the mortuary to identify corpses.
While the National and Wuse General Hospitals’ management have declined to speak on camera, 8 corpses have been deposited at the mortuary of the national hospital and 8 others are receiving treatment.
15 patients taken to the Wuse general hospital have been discharged.
Residents of the FCT have also expressed concern over the security implications and the effect it will have on the area.
They however noted that lives are of more importance than money and don’t mind putting their businesses on hold to allow security operatives secure the area.
