Senate_ChamberThe National Assembly has promised to pass laws that will strengthen the electoral process in 2015 and beyond.

Speaking at a civil society parley on the Electoral Amendment Acts before the National Assembly, Chairman, Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Andy Uba, said the legislature recognizes that the necessary legal framework will provide a level playing field that will ensure a free and fair election.

He also added that in addition to reforms in the laws, the National Assembly is working to ensure that all the resources needed by INEC to successfully conduct the 2015 elections are provided.

Other bills before the National Assembly include a bill proposing that all elections are held on the same day, a bill for the provision of a renewal of a term of four years for INEC Secretary and another seeking the amendment of the mode of submission of names to INEC and guidelines for party primaries.
