IGPConcerned by the incessant terror attacks, herdsmen/farmers clashes in some parts of the country as well as other forms of crimes and criminality such as kidnappings, abductions trans-border banditry, proliferation of arms and ammunition taking place in the country, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, convened an emergency meeting of the top echelon of the Police Force on Thursday.

The meeting was held at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba said theIGP challenged the Zonal AIGs and Commissioners of Police to evolve new intelligence gathering and crime-fighting techniques and methodologies customized to suit their respective local challenges.

The IGP charged the senior officers to improve on their surveillance network and high police visibility across the country and to commence early preparations for the 2015 general elections by conducting adequate threat analysis and intensifying capacity building for electoral policing best practices.

The IGP reminded the police top brass of the immense trust and confidence reposed in them by the public and charged them to bring their professionalism, skills and experience to bear in solving crimes, maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property and ridding the country of terror.

He also urged them to commence early preparations for the 2015 general elections by conducting adequate threat analysis and intensifying capacity building for electoral policing best practices.

Abubakar reiterated that the country was passing through one of its most trying moments as a nation and therefore demands its officer’s utmost loyalty and commitment to duty.

He assured the citizenry of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to their well-being, noting that the Forces will continually do their best possible towards eliminating all threats to the internal security of the nation.
