Players in the education sector from across the country today (Thursday) gathered in Abuja to evaluate the Nigerian education sector reforms under President Good luck Jonathan administration.
Hosted by the Minister of State for Education, Mr Nyesom Wike, the players were presented with the scorecard of the minister since he assumed office.
The minister, who noted that access to quality education has improved over the last three years, put the total enrollment at over five hundred thousand from basic education to tertiary institutions, adding that an increment to the capacity of the sector has also taken place.
Mr Wike also reeled out the successes of his predecessors since that have worked under the President Goodluck Jonathan administrtion since 2010.
The achievements, according to the minister, includes the building and rehabilitation of schools across the country, mainstreaming of Almajiri education and specialized education in the different parts of the country.
He however noted that the major challenge is to improve the sector, insisting that the failure by state governments to access the funds made available by the federal government through SUBEB has also contributed to the challenges faced in improving the sector.
