Suicide-car-bomberKaduna state Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has declared a 24 hour curfew on Kaduna metropolis following the twin bomb explosion that left over 72 people dead in Kaduna Metropolis on Wednesday, July 23.

Yero, who pronounced the curfew with immediate effect, said it was to enable security agencies restore normalcy in the state.

In a Statement signed by his Director General, Media and Publicity, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, the Governor said the blasts were clear manifestation of the resolve by ‘agents of darkness’ to soak the land with blood of innocent people for no just cause.

He said the blast coming in the Holy Month of Ramadan, is a clear indication that those behind the act have no iota of fear of God as they have none for the sanctity of human life.

The Governor then urged the entire people in the State to be more vigilant with happenings around them and to also avoid unnecessary crowded areas.

The two bomb blasts were reportedly targeted at a former head of state, General Muhammdu Buhari and a prominent Islamic preacher, Sheik Dahiru Bauchi as they exploded about just one hour minutes apart.

Channels Television’s Chimezie Enyiocha reports that the first explosion occurred at Alkali road, near Kaduna State House of Assembly at about 12:30 in the afternoon, when a young boy primed with explosives round his body attempted to ram into the convoy of the Islamic preacher who was returning from where he delivered a Ramadan lecturer at Murtala Square.

25 people were killed and 14 others injured in the first explosion.

An hour later, another one went off at Kawo area, near the 1division Headquarters of Nigerian Army when a Sienna car attempted to ram into the convoy of General Buhari.

She also reports that although the former head of state escaped death,  his bullet proof SUV was badly damaged.

She further however noted that, his security aides who were in the two other Jeeps were all feared dead.

Over 50 People were feared killed in the second blast while scores were seriously injured. Many vehicles and nearby buildings were also affected.
