The Nigerian government is intensifying awareness campaign to enlighten citizens on the Ebola Virus disease and guard against uncontrollable spread of the disease.
At the routine joint security briefing of the the Police, State Security Service and the military held on Tuesday at the National Information Centre in Abuja, it was obvious that the Federal Government is not taking chances with any available opportunity to create the needed awareness.
Several briefings in the past had centred on the security challenges and terrorists attacks in the north-east and some other states in the north and the efforts of the security agencies to contain the situation and the . But the Tuesday briefing focussed more on the Ebola Virus cases reported in Lagos and how much awareness citizens have on preventive measures.
For the agencies, creating awareness on preventive measures is as serious as fighting insurgency.
The co-ordinator, of the information centre, Mr Mike Omeri, stressed the need for Nigerians to ensure they maintain good hygiene.
After they had given the Ebola disease enlightenment, Mr Omeri told journalists that the military was not under-equipped to match the insurgents as published in the social media.
According to him, it is global best practice for the government to keep secret the tactic employed by security agencies in fighting terrorism.
He appealed to the public to appreciate and co-operate with security operatives to win the fight against terrorism.
The officials also appealed to politicians to keep security forces out of their politics, to allow them focus on their legitimate duties of protecting the nation and its citizens.
