Former Vice President of Nigeria and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has urged those who voted in the Osun governorship election to stand firm and ‘jealously’ guard their votes.

Atiku, in a press release personally signed by him, noted that with the early results coming out of the election, the people must make sure their vote count to achieve a total victory in the election.

“Citizens of Osun should not lose the moment to happy mood, but must remain vigilant until victory is total in the election,” the former Vice President said

Atiku advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) “to ensure that the will of the people is not subverted” in order to restore confidence to the electoral and democratic process.

“I see results coming in from Osun Polling Units in line with INEC directives,” he said, expressing optimism that the election will be free and fair.

The former Vice President insisted that “no matter who wins in Osun State, the will of the people is sacrosanct and must be respected”.

In the mean time voting has ended in the Saturday’s governorship election and collation of results from different polling centres has commenced.

The election process has been described as peaceful by observers.
