A total of 48 winners emerged in the sixth edition of the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (Lagos HOMS) monthly draw on Wednesday, August 13, at the LTV Blue Roof Multipurpose Hall, Agidingbi.

The State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, who was present at the event urged Lagosians to ensure the continuity of the policy by voting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general elections.

Fashola said that although his administration initiated the scheme and has nurtured it to maturity, the owners of the policy remain the APC, adding that the only way to ensure its continuity was to retain the party in the state.

“All I need to say to you is that if you want this to continue remember that the party that owns me is the All Progressives Congress. They are the owners of this policy”

Noting that the policy has witnessed and will continue to witness adjustments based on new experiences and revelations going forward, Fashola said that the adjustments were necessary in order to accommodate all segments of the society who are qualified to participate in the scheme.

The Governor recalled his statement during the launch of the scheme that things would begin to change as the scheme progresses, adding that the actual launch was based on what had been demonstrated in a laboratory environment which, according to him, is a controlled environment.

On the rent-to-own project, which is being worked on, the Governor explained, “The scheme allows you to rent with a view to own. When we start the scheme, you will be a tenant in the house and you will continue to pay rent. But part of what you pay will be a saving towards your mortgage.

“This offers you the opportunity to be a tenant in any of our flats and when you have paid up to five years and have accrued the 30 percent equity, we then offer you the mortgage”, he said adding, “We are still working the numbers but the whole idea is to communicate to you the regeneration, the compassionate and the inclusive side of the Lagos HOMS policy.”

Also present at the draw were members of the State Executive Council, including Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Taofeek Tijani; Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi; Executive Secretary, Lagos HOMS, Mr. Kojo Sagoe; former Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Jokotola Pelumi and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, including State Woman Leader, Mrs Kemi Nelson and other top government functionaries.
