ogun state logoin a bid to minimise the spread of Ebola Virus from animals to human beings in Nigeria, the Ogun State Government, through the State Ministry of Agriculture, has embarked on an awareness campaign to sensitize bush meat sellers in Abeokuta, the state capital.

During the sensitization tour of bush meat selling points, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs Ronke Sokefun, admonished sellers to always subject the meat to veterinary check before they are processed for consumption.

Mrs Sokefun also said that the services of medical experts must be sought before preparing the meat for consumption.

She used the opportunity to disabuse the minds of the residents about the possible spread of the virus through cow meat.

Meanwhile, as part of its effort to provide the much needed manpower for the treatment of patients, the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), said that it has trained 100 health givers but was quick to ask for more protective equipment from the State Government as well as more isolation centers for victims.

The outbreak of Ebola virus has continued to attract attention at different fora and the sensitization by the Ogun State Government may not be out of place.

Personal hygiene has been recommended as a way of reducing the spread of the virus among the people.
