ogun state water corporation1Ogun State Water Corporation has concluded arrangements to set up Community Task Force in conjunction with the 6,720 Community Development Associations [CDAs], spread across the state.

They are also determined to check incessant service pipe leakages and put to rest illegal connection on its main pipes by unscrupulous people.

The task force, according to a statement by the corporation’s Media Officer, Mr Ayokunle Ewuoso, would comprise a representative from each of the CDAs with members of staff of the corporation at the various business units.

Speaking during an interactive session with the executive and members of the Olumo Area Community Development Council, held at Abeokuta North Local Government, the General Manager, State Water Corporation, Mrs Monsurat Agboola, said that the task force would be saddled with the responsibilities of reporting those found to have connected to the corporation’s main pipes illegally, and reporting immediately to the corporation when there are cases of leak pipes – either those belonging to the corporation or their various customers – with a view of attending urgently to it.

She said “This move became necessary because we have observed that some customers are in the habit of not attending to their burst pipes on time and this affects the flow of water because when water leaks from burst pipes the needed pressure to push water to far areas will not be there. Water wasting as a result of burst pipes damages roads constructed by the government.”

Mrs Agboola also advised residents of the state to always attend to burst or leak pipes urgently to avoid diseases, assuring that the corporation on its part would continue to pump potable water to the public. She added that the present administration in the state would not compromise standard in the provision of water supply to the good people of the state.

Responding on behalf of the Olumo Area CDC, Dr. Adedamola Soremekun commended the corporation’s initiatives for deeming it fit to interact with CDAs spread across the state and for coming up with the idea of setting up the task force, describing it as laudable. He urged those in the act of connecting illegally to the corporation’s pipes to desist.
