State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdulmajid Ali 1Reprieve has come for families of police men and officers who died in the line of duty, as the Imo State Police Command has remembered widows by setting up small scale businesses as well as given scholarships to their children who couldn’t further their education since the demise of their father.

During an empowerment programme at the Police headquarters in Owerri, Imo State capital, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdulmajid Ali,  said the gesture was part of the programme lined up to assist families of late police officers in the command, especially the ones that died in the line of duty.

He further disclosed that the initiative was made possible with the partnership of the Police Officers’ Wives’ Association (POWA) in the State.

The widows received sewing machines, grinding machine, food stuffs, generating sets, all running into millions of naira to help them start up small scale businesses.

While addressing the gathering on the aim of the programme, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdulmajid Ali said the programme was aimed at remembering families of late police officers and appreciating the families by giving them a sense of belonging.

He also disclosed that the command would give scholarship to one of the siblings of a late police officer who couldn’t further his education after gaining admission into the university on merit.

Some beneficiaries commended the Imo State Police Command for the kind gesture, noting that it will remain a  remarkable day in their lives and hoped it goes a long way to alleviate sufferings by the families of late police officers.
