The General Manager, Ogun State Water Corporation, Monsurat Agboola, has called on the Ogun State House of Assembly to expedite action on the passage of the Water Sector Bill for more efficient and effective service delivery.

The Corporation, in a statement by its spokesman, Mr Ayokunle Ewuoso, had through the State Executive Council some months back presented the water bill to the Assembly for passage and subsequent signing into law by the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Engineer Agboola, who made the call while hosting the officials of the Ondo State Water Corporation, led by its General Manager, Engineer Jimmy Akinrinmade, who were on a six-day benchmarking visit to the Ogun State Water Corporation, stated that the water sector law would enable the Corporation operate on commercial and financially viable basis.

She said, “Let me use this opportunity to call on our highly respectable lawmakers to expedite action on the passage of the water sector bill.

“”I want to thank them for what they have done so far because the bill had passed its second reading, so what we are expecting now is the passage of the bill so that the Governor could assent it and it becomes law.

“This law is for good of both the customers and the corporation. It’s for good of everybody in the state”.

The General Manager, who pointed out that the Corporation is committed and shall endeavour to provide quality water to her esteemed customers and other stakeholders in an efficient and cost effective manner, stated that the Corporation presently has 15 major water works with surface water supply and boreholes, 30 mini water works and 25 micro water works with over 50% service coverage across the state.

Earlier, the General Manager, Ondo State Water Corporation, Engineer Akinrinmade said that the Corporation presently has five area offices where revenue are generated from with the establishment of Commercial department as stipulated by the National Water Reform policy. The department is now solely in charge of billing and revenue generation for the Corporation.

He thanked the management and staff of the Ogun State Water Corporation for allowing his team to understudy the operations and workings of the State Corporation, assuring them that all they have learnt would be replicated in Ondo State Water Corporation.
