The chairman of the party in the state, Mr Bayo Dayo, made the observation on Monday in Ijebu Igbo, a town in Ogun State, during a ceremony held to receive about 3,000 defectors from other parties.
While affirming that the party was ready for victory in the forth coming general elections, the chairman, however, appealed to party members to close rank and jettison personal interests in order to ensure resounding victory for the party.
It is a harvest season for the umbrella party (PDP) as more defectors are joining the party in preparation for next year general elections.
Although a former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, was absent at the meeting held by the national leadership of the party, the chairman said that “the former President remains a solid pillar and leader of the party”, explaining that his absence had not invalidated the endorsement.
The national leadership of the PDP had at a meeting held in Abuja, the nation’s capital, last week, concluded plans to endorse the President as the only candidate for the party, a development which triggered mixed reactions from different quarters in the country.
